Working groups on special topics

The working groups are intended to allow small groups to go into more detail about specific topics and issues. The deadline to register was 15th April 2015. Shortly after the deadline you will find a list of all registered working groups with short descriptions on this page.

Themes:

Themes for these working groups may come from any field of science (and do not have to be directly related to the conference theme). Working groups which introduce current research, develop or discuss working methods, address didactic and educational issues, or deepen specific or interdisciplinary themes are particularly desirable.

Format:

three 90 minute sessions, held in one language (English and/or German)

Meditative Methoden in der Naturwissenschaft

3. Working Group:

A practice-based workshop for the development of etheric and astral perception

(DE/EN)

Although everyone more or less has the ability to perceive etheric and astral forces, most people are not aware of this ability. This workshop will provide the opportunity for participants to broaden and deepen their capacities to the point where they can become conscious experiences. The workshop will take place mainly in nature and will focus on practical perception exercises that can lead to the experience of supersensible forces and beings. The workshop is suitable for people with no previous experience as well for people who have some experience but are hesitant about their capacities and would like to develop them further.

4. Working Group:

Picture forming methods – Copper chloride crystallization, rising pictures, drop picture, morphology of algae

(DE/EN)

The three picture forming methods and the morphology of algae: Their pioneers, physical and chemical basics and fields of application will be presented on the first day. The theme of the second day will be form and formation (Gestalt und Gestalt-
bildung). We will discuss the perception and experience of pictures and how they can be evaluated. Lastly there will be a selection of pictures to be evaluated.

5. Working Group:

Sonja Schürger, Holger Coers: Sinnliche Erkenntnis der Landschaft – dem Genius Loci des Goetheanumparks begegnen

cancelled

6. Working Group:

Plant Development and the Path of the Scientist

(EN/DE)

Goethe showed us how the subject to be studied determines the way we look. This workshop will explore the relationship between the growth of plants and the tools we need to develop within our own organism in order to apprehend the levels of plant development. A third step will take us to the relationship between the path of the scientist and Rudolf Steiner's schooling.

7. Working Group:

Raum-Hülle und heilende Regeneration / Schaffung von Ressourcen bildenden Orten

8. Working Group:

Experimentation as an element of a path towards spiritual insight in chemistry

(DE/EN)

In chemistry one can strive for an encounter with forces and spiritual entities which take effect between substances and unveil themselves in chemical phenomena. The starting point of such a path of insight is to be found in chemical experi-
mentation. - What attitude do we take into perception and insight? What attitude do we take towards the experiments? And what could be meant by "spiritual entities"? We will pursue questions like these through exercises and in dialogue, using experiments with tin.

9. Working Group:

Water phenomena

(EN)

A presentation of experiences and results from holding water phenomena workshops. These workshops, given over several years, use a hands-on curriculum of simple hydrodynamic experiments, form and dynamic drawing, clay modeling and Eurythmy. The curriculum strives to help the participant develop keener observation skills and awaken an appreciation for the positive qualities of water.

This working group is now together with working group nr 10: Arbeitskreis für Strömungsforschung: Strömungen in der Natur (und Technik)

10. Working Group:

Arbeitskreis für Strömungsforschung: Strömungen in der Natur (und Technik)

This working group is now together with working group nr 9: Water phenomena

11. Working Group:

Gestalt- und Substanzbildung der Pflanze und die drei Prinzipien Sal – Merkur – Sulfur

12. Working Group:

Goethean psychology – the observation of the inner life

(EN)

Rudolf Steiner spoke quite harshly against psychoanalysis as it was developing in the early 20th century, but some of his comments have led to anthroposophy failing to take much part in the developments leading to the rich and varied streams of psychology in the following 100 years – Gestalt, Logotherapy, Psychosynthesis etc. The creation of Psychophonetics 25 years ago by Yehuda Tagar has developed into an experiential methodology founded on the anthroposophical structure of the soul given by Rudolf Steiner in 1910 (Psychosophy). My wish is to outline the threads which have led to this situation, present the fundamentals of Psychosophy and to explore together experientially, how psychophonetics can be a practical research tool for an anthroposophical psychology.

13. Working Group

Quantum physics – is there a way to speak about it with non-specialists?

(EN)

Quantum physics is considered to be such a difficult theory that even specialists have difficulties understanding its philosophical foundations. It would seem that non-specialists don't stand a chance! On the other hand, one could conclude that when speaking about Quantum Physics everyone is in a sense a non-specialist. So we want to turn the question around: Is there a way to speak about Quantum physics without speaking as a non-specialist? So in this workshop we will dive into the different "understandings of understanding“ and consider what confidence we can have that a product of thinking (such as a theory) is understandable with thinking.

14. Working Group:

Laura Liska, Troy Vine: The significance of Goethe's theory of color in science and philosophy today

cancelled

15. Working Group:

16. Working Group:

The potential of Goethean science in the 21st century – reasons why modern life sciences and Goethean science are approaching each other

(DE/EN)

In recent years, the concept of teleology has reentered the academic discussion in biology. Epigenetics, the emergence of autonomy in evolution and Evo Devo – the latter by showing that all the master genes of vertebrate animals can be discovered in the primitive ancestors – allow us to hypothesize directed evolutionary processes. Do we see natural and spiritual science approaching each other? This is the question we would like to discuss in the workshop.

17. Working Group:

Meinhard Simon: Die unbekannte Welt der Mikroben – Meister des Stoffwechsels in allen Naturreichen

19. Working Group:

20. Working Group:

Kees Veenman: Farbenmeditation
